Best Wishes From Leaders

“I am extremely honored and privileged to have been asked to write in the first ever science magazine of GEMS Our Own Indian School. This is the school that I have seen grow from infancy to such a mature school right in front of my eyes. I have seen the metamorphosis of the staff and students as they took baby steps to confident sprinters in their own areas of expertise.

The Science department has been the pride of the school with students faring exceptionally well be it Board Exams, benchmarking tests, STEAM experiments or innovation clubs. The teachers have found the magic potion to activate the right brain cells in students…our teachers have been nothing less than brain surgeons who have worked on the nerve cells and synapses to better the performance of each child every day, day after day.

I congratulate the entire team for their efforts in bringing out their best. Way to go Science Department!”

You cannot teach a man anything; you can only help him discover it in himself. – Galileo

We are in many ways unimaginably small within this universe, yet uniquely special. We have the power to go to space, are self-aware, and masters of our own destiny. Yet we are on a small planet circling an average star, spiraling around a massive galaxy of hundreds of billions of stars. That galaxy, on top of that, is just one of billions of galaxies! This is the vastness of our universe and of science.

Science help students develop key life skills, including an ability to communicate, remain organized and focused and even form their own opinions based on observation. Therefore, my message to all young scientists of the Middle School resonates with the quote from Albert Einstein: “The important thing is to never stop questioning [or learning].”

The pages of the first edition of the Middle School Science magazine- Aurora is witness to your passion to learn and question. Keep that spirit alive! I also take this opportunity to thank all the teachers for this wonderful initiative.

“The term  “Aurora “suggests an entrancing, dramatic, magical display of natural light in the sky that fascinates all. It is one of the most riveting spectacles of nature.

The sunspots and solar storms that cause the most magnificent displays of the northern lights occur roughly every 11 years. The sun's many magnetic fields distort and twist as our parent star rotates on its axis. When these fields become knotted together, they burst and create the so-called sunspots. When charged particles from the sunspots strike atoms like Oxygen & Nitrogen in Earth's atmosphere, they cause electrons in the atoms to move to a higher-energy state. When the electrons drop back to a lower energy state, they release yellow, green, red, violet and occasionally blue light creating the beautiful aurora.

I congratulate the Middle School in selecting the beautiful name ‘aurora’  for their  scientific magazine. Let the ‘solar storm’ of knowledge & moral values emit from them and make the whole school produce a magnificent ‘aurora’.

Best wishes to the team for putting together this scientific magazine.”

"The good thing about science is that it's true whether you believe it or not."

-Neil deGrasse Tyson

Why should we learn Science in school if we intend to choose a career not based on Science? Some of you might have asked this question.  Why is learning Science important?  One of the main reasons is to develop a scientific attitude. 'Scientific attitude is the desire to know and understand, question all statements, search for data and their meaning, search for verification, and consider consequences'. It enables us to think rationally. You think logically, identifying the cause-effect relationship. You develop open-mindedness, positive attitude related to analyzing any information, keeping yourself away from superstitious beliefs, and being objective while taking decisions. Enjoy learning Science! I am sure that learning Science will help you be a better version of yourself, day in and day out.

Congratulations team, for creating a Science magazine for the academic year 2020-21.  My best wishes for your future endeavors as well.

“Science is a way of learning about what is in the natural world, how the natural world works, and how the natural world got to be the way it is.

Science learning begins with curiosity. Observations and questions create a climate of discovery which is the key to scientific learning

Our Science Magazine Aurora, is a key step to develop Scientific literacy which is the knowledge and understanding of scientific concepts and processes required for a future personal decision making.  A big congratulation for the effort taken by our passionate students and teachers in bringing up this excellent portal to showcase our scientific temperament.

Wishing each of our young scientist a delightful start through this great venture.”
