Demonstration of Science Experiments

Mr. George James, the senior supervisor of Senior School Boys is a dedicated academician and motivates students to experiment on different science topics. Mr. James reaches out to students of all ages by his simple yet innovative methods. He can make the most complicated scientific theories look simple and exciting. His methods are interesting and accessible to all students. Middle School students are inspired to explore the vast world of science by watching his detailed videos on a wide variety of topics.

Middle School students enjoying this learning process.

Acids and bases. Why are these important in science?

Acids and bases are two special groups of chemicals. Almost all  liquids are either acidic or basic to some degree. Everyone should be familiar with their properties to make best use of them and prevent any untoward incidents.

In this video, Mr. George James has explained the different reactions and properties of acids and bases in the simplest way so that all students above 6th grade could understand. This video was extremely informative and interesting.

During this pandemic, this video has even helped students understand the concept more effectively through the various experiments done by Mr. George James.

* Raniya Syed Mustafa 8-C (Head girl - MSG (Middle School Girls))

The advanced chemistry concepts like Reaction of Acids and Bases as well as separation of mixtures have been explained by Mr. George James in a simple and explicit manner. As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. This stands true as using hands-on experiments and real-life applications have made it easier for, we students to remember the facts. The complexity of the topics has been broken down into simpler parts so that any student from sixth grade or above is able to understand.

By Ashnia Mary Roy 8D, Jai Pramod 7P

Eugene Kommuguri 8O, Josephine Maria 7D. The lyrics & melody by Leah from 10E. The music production & videography by Mr. Peter Lobo.

Coordinator - Ms. Sammi Mamgain

Interesting Science Experiments by our students

1) A trendsetter in the making... our young scientist, Adithya Prashanth of 7M, showing the structure of the Oxygen atom in a simple yet impressive way:

2) Physical and Chemical Changes: Illustrations by Godwin Thomas-7Q:

3) Extension task of Colorful Conventional Current done very effectively by Aryan Raj & Naman of 7M.

4) Great mode of learning scientific facts using Phet virtual lab by Grade 7Q boys to learn the structure and stability of atoms of different elements:

5) Video for science magazine by Ayush Vijay:

6) Abdul Wajid of Grade 6P extending his learning beyond the classroom through his presentation on explaining the construction and working of a pinhole camera:

7) Magnificent study done by Nathan of 6P on the effect of different shapes of holes and the resulting images formed by a pin hole camera:

8) “We cannot solve a problem by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.” Aaditya created Training DIY mask to train kids at home & Expression mask to help people express themselves especially dumb people:

9) Hitarth Pathak of 7M using his exemplary talent to recall the first 43 elements of the Periodic Table:

10) Hitarth Pathak of 7M enlightening Dr. Homi Bhabha’s contribution to the Indian heritage of Science as a part of Middle School Science Week activities:

11) Aryan Raj of 7M explaining how Science helps us to analyze everything in the world through a self-composed poem using rhyming words as a part of Science week activities:

12) Electricity is one form of energy that is produced due to flow of charge.  This science project “Electric Generator” helps us to understand about electricity, current, DC motor, charge, open circuit, close circuit, LED, etc.: - Aryan Raj 7M

13) A rock is a naturally occurring solid mass or aggregate of minerals. The diverse types of rocks are Igneous, Sedimentary, and Metamorphic rocks. Igneous rocks are formed by the cooling of magma or lava. Eg. andesite, basalt, etc. Sedimentary rocks are formed when sediment is deposited out of air, ice, wind, gravity, or water flows carrying the particles in suspension. Eg. sandstone, limestone, and shale. Metamorphic rocks start out as some other type of rock, but then substantially change from their original igneous or sedimentary form. Eg. phyllite, schist, marble, etc.

Arjun Krishna - 7M

 14) Electroscope experiment done by a Grade 8 student with the materials available in home:

15) Sasha Samuel of 7D showing Science magic using the principle of hot air rising from the candle fire and pushing the edges of the spiral paper. This was a part of the Science week activities:

 16) “OIS Isotopes, a science club that is introduced for the purpose of encouraging young intellectuals to further their scientific endeavors in an interactive and fun manner." -Abin Sajid of 8P expressing his views:

17) We all have fancy fans and lights, but some of them are not as efficient in power usage, we have made a compact and efficient 2 in 1 light and fan system. This 2 in 1 is adjustable in height, which is useful when you are sitting high or low, it produces decent wind, and has a powerful light. You can select between the light and the fan using a selector.

- Sai Sankalp 7M:

18) Simple yet effective Scientific experiments by our middle school students.

Here is the link for the video:-

19) Demonstration of types of circuits by Dhruv Syam of 6O.

In this circuit there are 2 motors, 1 LED, 1switch and a 5v rechargeable battery. There are both parallel and series connection.

20) Nathan of 6P demonstrating the use of a breadboard and few other components. He also explained what an Arduino is and demonstrated a simple project with the Arduino Uno R3 and a breadboard.

21) THE INQUISITIVE Mudit from 6O tried this experiment to find out in which material does the ice the melts fastest. The materials are cotton shirt, woolen sweater & Aluminum foil. You can do this at your home too!

1. Hybrid Classroom by 8N

Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hybrid classes are the new norm for students. Our PBL project will help all schools to completely adjust, be comfortable and stay safe in hybrid classes.

Their driving question -

How can we students create an App that helps to make blended and hybrid education safer for both students and faculty for the smooth functioning of our school?

2. Disaster Management By 7M

Flood is a disaster that can be natural or manmade; this Project based learning will help the community to take precautions when they get flood alerts.  Driving question - How can disaster management help the community to take precautions when they get flood alerts?

3. - Eco Buddies of 7M  -

Farmers cultivate crops to feed us, but if the farm is destroyed, we cannot get food. The PBL 3 Eco friends produced an idea to save the farmland from getting eroded and stopping sandstorms, floods, etc. from reaching the farm. The farmer has total control over his farm. This device has a powerful system which prevents animals from entering. and helps the farmer in various other ways.

4. Nano Smarties of 7C  -

We have all heard of Global Warming, but the sad truth is that there is no effort being put in to reduce its effects. Our PBL Project aims to establish a functioning model at a low cost that relies on less energy to create a healthier environment for all of us.  Driving question - How can we utilize nanotechnology to reduce the hazardous effects of greenhouse gases in urban areas, which leads to global warming affecting the health of the people?

5. Bot Buddy from 7Q  -

One of the best practices we have in our school is the Buddy System. In this pandemic, we designed a Robot that acts like a Buddy and will be helpful to students and teachers. Click on the link for more details.  Driving question - How we can enhance schooling using AI ?

6. VCARE Products from 6A -

How to ensure the quality of food being delivered? Our PBL Project produces a solution for this with our products. Our VCARE app allows the customer to know all the details about their Order like Hygiene, Status and Temperature control.  Driving question - How can we ensure that the quality of food delivered is safe?

7. Automatic Hand Sanitizer by 6M  -

Handwashing is one of the best ways to protect yourself and your family from getting sick. Learn when and how you should wash your hands to stay healthy with help of our Automatic Hand Sanitizer.  Driving question - How can we use robots to maintain hand hygine in schools?
